The three tests

Not all zombies are the same problem

A state that survives a slow shambling outbreak can get flattened by a fast one. So every state gets scored three times, and the headline number blends all three.

Walking Dead

Slow & relentless

Nobody sprints. Rivers, marshes, fences and distance all work. Terrain and time are on your side, so long-term food and water decide who is still standing in year two.

Model: The Walking Dead

World War Z

Fast & everywhere

The outbreak outruns the evacuation. Flat ground, dense cities and single-bridge escape routes turn lethal in hours. Very few states do well here.

Last of Us

Slow collapse

Escaping the first wave is the easy part. This one is decided by farmland, wells, fishing, climate and whether you can build something that lasts a decade.

Model: The Last of UsYes, we know they're not technically zombies. The comments section can stand down.

Method

Twenty-five factors, every state, same scale

Each factor is scored 1–10 using real public data — census, USDA agriculture figures, state environmental agencies, climate offices, emergency management. The weighting shifts depending on the scenario, because a mountain range matters more against sprinters than against shamblers.
